Teen passenger dies in eastern Minnesota crash

FLOODWOOD, Minn. -- A 17-year-old Proctor girl died Saturday in a head-on collision near Floodwood in northeastern Minnesota.

Just after 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, Emma Faith Abernathy was a passenger in a Ford Focus heading west on U.S. Highway 2 east of Floodwood when the car crossed over the centerline, striking an eastbound Toyota Prius head-on, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The patrol said road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not a factor.

The driver of the Focus, Logan Dawson Hink, 17, of Brookston; the driver of the Prius, Annette Simone Humphrey, 52, of Deer River; and the passenger of the Prius, Cedar Antonia Jimenez, 14, were transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, the patrol said.

Floodwood is about 45 miles west of Duluth.
