Chasen E. Getty
Sergeant Major Getty, son of Gary and Lynn Getty, formerly of Brainerd, now of San Tan Valley, AZ, has retired after 30 years of service with the USMC. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 10 January 1989 and attended Recruit Training in San Diego, Ca. In July 2001, Staff Sergeant Getty deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 02.1. While deployed he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. In April 2005, Gunner Sergeant Getty transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC where he served as a Drill Instructor. In May 2008, First Sergeant Getty was transferred to Tango Battery, 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, NC for duty as the Battery First Sergeant, where he deployed to Iraq for the second time in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 08.2. In November 2009, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.2. In May 2013, Sergent Major Getty transferred to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Twentynine Palms, Ca where he deployed to Afghanistan for the second time in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 14.2
His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of forth award, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star in lieu of second award.
Sergeant Major Getty retired September 21. 2018. He is married to Veronica Getty. They have one son, Jacoby, age 26, and one grandson.
