Sophie's Fundraiser set for Sept. 15

There will be a fundraiser for 6-year-old Sophie from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Confidence Learning Center, 1620 Mary Fawcett Memorial Drive, East Gull Lake.

Sophie has complex medical needs. To name just a few, Angelman Syndrome, Intractable Epilepsy, hip dysplasia, scoliosis, optic disc anomaly, tube feed dependence and sensorineural hearing loss.

To aid Sophie's day-to-day safety and functioning, she was partnered with a highly trained alert dog, Tinkerbell. In a sad turn of events, Tinkerbell passed away from an aggressive cancer in May.

This fundraiser will help Sophie get a new service dog.

There will be food, a silent auction, bake sale and T-shirts for sale for $20.

Brainerd Garden Club to meet

The Brainerd Garden Club will meet noon Friday, Sept. 14, at the Northland Arboretum.

There will be a catered lunch, as well as the annual meeting and election of officers.

Program will be local foods presented by Jackie Froemming.

Host and hostess will be Herman Bradley and Joan Simonson.

Brainerd VFW Post No. 1647 and Auxiliary meetings set

Brainerd VFW Post 1647 and Auxiliary will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The VFW monthly breakfast will be Sept. 16. Cost: $8.

Brainerd Retired Firepeople meeting planned

Brainerd Retired Firepeople will meet for breakfast 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Front Street Cafe.

Brainerd Eagles Club breakfast Sunday

The Brainerd Eagles Club will serve breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 9, 124 Front St., Brainerd, featuring the Eagles' special for $8.

The next breakfast will be Sept. 30.

Class of 1966 to meet

PILLAGER—Class of 1966 will meet 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at the Hunting Shack in Pillager on Highway 210.

Alpha Chapter OES meeting set for Monday

Alpha Chapter OES will meet 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10.

Rob Morris night will be observed. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. by Gary and Judy. The treats after the meeting will be served by Gary and Judy.

Backus Legion events

BACKUS—Frankie Lamb's Frankly Country Band returns to the Backus American Legion from 2-5 p.m. Sept. 16, playing classic country, pop, swing and old-time.

The dance will be followed by a 4-H benefit oven-fried chicken dinner from 5 p.m. until gone with mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable and roll for $9 a plate, sponsored by the Hooves, Paws N' Claws 4-H club.

Pinetree Patchworkers to meet

BAXTER—The Pinetree Patchworkers Quilt Guild will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 6190 Fairview Road, Baxter.

The September program will feature member Carol VanDenBoom who will talk about rug hooking.

The business meeting will follow the program with show and tell.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events

The Legion Riders will meet 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10.

Ray's Promenaders classes will be 7 p.m. Monday in the Zelinske Hall.

Minnesota Darkhouse Association will meet 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Brainerd Area Networking Group will meet noon Thursday, Sept. 13.

The special dinner for Friday, Sept. 14 will be rib-eye steak for $13. Walleye dinner is also available for $11. Serving begins at 5 p.m.

Xi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa

Xi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa will meet 4:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at the Brainerd Public Library. The program will be the Brainerd Public Schools Archives, with John Erickson as the speaker.

Hackensack American Legion to serve breakfast

Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202 will serve breakfast from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Club.

Menu includes choice of biscuits and gravy with eggs or French toast with eggs and bacon. Both include juice and coffee for $6.

The proceeds go to support youth scholarships.

Senior dances

Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Motley Ten-Hi with music by Frank and Fran; and from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Backus Legion with music by Frankly Country.

WHS Class of 1955 to meet

The Washington High School Class of 1955, spouses and friends will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Northwind Grille.

American Diabetes Association, Brainerd Chapter, meeting planned

BAXTER—The American Diabetes Association, Brainerd Lakes Area Chapter, will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Prairie Bay, 15115 Edgewood Drive, Baxter.

There will be a presentation on "Keeping Your Eyes Healthy" by Kerry Beebe from Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center, Brainerd.

There will be a diabetic friendly lunch served at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be from noon to 1 p.m.
