A strong and very warm high pressure system will settle across the region on Tuesday. It will bring record or near record heat to the northland Tuesday into Tuesday evening. High temperatures will soar into the 90s across the entire region. With heat index values topping out in the 95 to 105 degree range. It will be particularly dangerous for those susceptible to the heat, as well as animals. It may be a good idea now to plan on checking on those most at risk to extreme heat.
Heat advisory in effect from 11 am to 8 pm cdt Tuesday, August 20.
The national weather service in Duluth has issued a heat advisory, which is in effect from 11 am to 8 pm cdt Tuesday.
* Location...Northeastern Minnesota and much of northwestern Wisconsin. The exception is Iron and Price counties of northwestern Wisconsin.
* Timing...From 11 am to 8 pm Tuesday.
* Temperature...High temperatures will be in the 90s with heat index values of 95 to 105.
* Impacts...The extremely warm temperatures and high heat index values will be especially dangerous for those most at risk such as those in poor health and the elderly. Also be sure to check on animals and keep them cool as well.
Instructions: A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids. Stay in an air-conditioned room. Stay out of the sun. And check up on relatives and neighbors.
