BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) — Freezing rain is coating roads in northern Minnesota with a thick layer of ice.
The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for parts of the Northland, including Cass, Beltrami and Koochiching (KOO'-chih-ching) counties. The slick travel conditions have caused some school districts to cancel or delay classes Friday.
The Duluth News Tribune (http://bit.ly/ZPhxN7 ) says Duluth, Ely, Hibbing and Chisholm schools are among those closed.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising not to travel on Highways 113 and 108 near Waubun and Pelican Rapids because of icy conditions.
Freezing rain is expected to end later Friday with snow developing. Forecasters expect 3 to 7 inches of snow for northern St. Louis, northern Itasca and Koochiching counties.
