Alguire, Martin earn top honor at Kurilla

Kurilla Real Estate recently presented Todd Alguire and Liz Martin with its 2008 Realtor of the Year award, recognizing their success, professionalism and commitment.

Alguire has been in real estate for 12 years and joined Kurilla in 2007. Martin has been a real estate agent with Kurilla for 17 years, earning a Graduate Realtors Institute designation. She is a past winner of Kurilla Realtor of the Year and a director on the Multiple Listing Board.

Alguire and Martin both are members of the Greater Lakes Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Wild Ones to meet Thursday at arb

The recently formed Brainerd (Seedling) Chapter of the Wild Ones will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Northland Arboretum.

Following a short business meeting, there will be a viewing of the DVD "Wild About Wildflowers."

Members and guests are welcome to bring sketches and ideas about their own native-plant landscapes.

Edina Realty to collect donations for Armed Forces Day

Edina Realty will collect donated items throughout May in honor of Armed Forces Day.

Donated items will be sent to U.S. troops overseas. Donations may be dropped off at Edina Realty in Baxter or Crosslake.

Water features workshop set May 16 at arboretum

A landscape design and water features indoor/outdoor workshop is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. May 16 at the Northland Arboretum.

Daniel Dix of WoodSpirit Gardens will present the workshop, which costs $5 for arboretum members and $10 for non-members.

Dix has installed water gardens in many locations and situations. Through a slide show and video presentation, he will share tips on how to make your water garden a beautiful and intrinsic part of your landscape.

Kennedy joins Edina Realty

Mike Kennedy, a lakes area native, recently joined Edina Realty in Baxter as a real estate sales associate.

Formerly a sales and marketing professional in the hospitality industry, Kennedy worked in east coast markets but returned to the lakes area four years ago.

Knudsen opens own firm

Jim Knudsen, a Brainerd area real estate agent since 1983, has opened his own firm - Sell Brainerd Realty, LLC.

Knudsen has been a broker since 1987 and is a member of the Greater Lakes Association of Realtors, serving as president in 1991 and also on its board of directors. He also headed up the area Multiple Listing System, serving as chairman. Knudsen also has earned Certified Residential Specialists designation.

Knudsen said his firm will serve an area of about a 10-mile radius of Brainerd.

Groundbreaking for Habitat house set in Little Falls

LITTLE FALLS - Habitat for Humanity of Morrison County has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony at 5 p.m. May 15 at a home at 210 10th St., Little Falls.

The Little Falls home will be Habitat's 10th.

Lakes Area Habitat to build first house of year

The Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity will begin the first build of 2009 in Pillager on Monday. The build will take approximately six weeks.

Volunteers are needed to help with construction. Experience is not required, just a willingness to serve.

The Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity builds houses with families in need of decent and affordable housing in Cow Wing, Cass and Hubbard counties. For more information call Laurie at 828-8517.
