AITKIN -- Lois A. Westling, 79, Aitkin, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Hallett Cottages in Crosby.
She was born Feb. 3, 1923, in New Castle, Wyo., to Oscar and Ruby (Kvenberg) Hoelz. She graduated from Aitkin High School. During World War II she worked in Washington, D.C., for the Defense Department and she worked in Minneapolis. She married Duane E. Westling on July 3, 1947, in Aitkin. They lived in Colman, S.D.; Selby, S.D.; Sundance, Wyo.; and Columbus, N.D. They retired and moved to Aitkin. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Woodland Chapter No. 112 and past Worthy Matron, Aitkin United Methodist Church and she held several state and local offices with the United Methodists.
Survivors include four daughters, Susan Thomas, Champlin, Rebecca Bogema, St. Paul, Laurel Rusch, Burnsville, and Coral Rickel, Waconia; two brothers, Joel Hoelz, Aitkin, and Murray Hoelz, Baxter; a sister, Artis Orjala, Aitkin; 10 grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and her special friend, Ralph Howe, Coon Rapids.
Her husband died Nov. 21, 1990.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Aitkin United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Malmo Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
