As Brainerd Warriors coach Ty Eigner said, "I'm about shot out."
That's how Eigner felt after Brainerd lost a shootout for the second time in two days, this time to Benilde-St. Margaret's in the consolation semifinals of the Silver Division of the Schwan Cup boys' hockey tournament at the Roseville Skating Center.
In a four-player shootout following a scoreless overtime, Benilde scored on its first attempt and the Warriors' Mike Germain missed.
Benilde scored on its second attempt as did the Warriors' Zack Lundbohm.
Benilde scored again on its third attempt while the Warriors' Mike Baker missed.
On its fourth attempt Benilde missed along with the Warriors' Carl Sneep, ending the contest.
B-SM 5, Warriors 5
(Benilde-St. Margaret's won in shootout)
The key: Benilde won the shootout 3-1 over Brainerd (7-2-3 overall).
Next: Seventh-place game of Schwan Cup vs. Coon Rapids, 3 p.m. Thursday at Roseville
For both teams' regular-season record the game will be designated a tie since the teams were deadlocked after a 5-minute overtime. The shootout was only to decide which team advances in the tournament.
Brainerd lost to Apple Valley in a shootout Tuesday.
"Apple Valley is off to a good start," Eigner said. "It will probably be Benilde or Breck that wins their section and goes to state. Breck is ranked No. 1 in Class A, Benilde is No. 3.
"We feel like this has been a good tournament for us. We're playing good competition. We're disappointed we didn't have a chance to move on (in the winners' bracket) but we also haven't lost yet. We're the only team that hasn't lost a game and we're playing for seventh place."
Brainerd built a 5-2 lead through two periods on two goals by and one apiece by Pete Larson, Kiel Browne and Lundbohm.
"We're not disappointed with what we did," Eigner said. "Unfortunately, we didn't win, and we certainly were in position to win being up 5-2."
Jake Carlson started in goal for Brainerd, making 13 saves. He split time with John Williams, who finished with 19.
