FREEDHEM -- Danford G. Johnson Sr., 87 year old resident of Freedhem, Minn., passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in Little Falls, Minn. Funeral services for Danford G. Johnson Sr. will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. David L. Steffenson officiating. Burial will be in the Freedhem Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls and Wednesday from noon until the hour of service at First Lutheran Church.
Danford G. (Danny) Johnson Sr. was born June 23, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minn., to the late Gust and Mary (Berglund) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 7th Armour Division as a half-track driver until his honorable discharge on March 14, 1944, due to his father's death. He returned to Freedhem and took over the operation of the family dairy farm. Danford was united in marriage to Olga Habas on Nov. 27, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Freedhem. The couple farmed in the Freedhem area until 1971. Danford then worked for Morrison County as a deputy county assessor until retiring in 1979. He served as a board member on many organizations. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, Minn.
Danford G. Johnson Sr. is survived by his wife, Olga Johnson; son, Danford Johnson Jr. and wife, Rana of Little Falls, Minn.; daughters, Arliss Bement and husband, Harry of Brainerd, Minn.; Edith Olson & husband, Keith of Manitoba, Canada; Ellen Clayton and husband Kenneth, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Linda Anderson and husband, Kevin of Weslaco, Texas; sister, Florence Schmidt and husband, Thomas of Miami, and 11 grandchildren.
Danford G. Johnson Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnold, Warren and Edward Johnson; and sisters, Doris Tofsly and Varna Wallace.
