LITTLE FALLS -- Roman C. Vaverek, 80, Little Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in St. Cloud.
He was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Sobieski to John and Mary (Sowada) Vaverek. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1941. He married Stella Lyshik on June 1, 1943, in Flensburg. He joined the Army on May 5, 1945, and was discharged in September 1945. The couple moved to Sobieski where they farmed until 1962. He owned and operated Vaverek's Grocery Store in Little Falls and worked at Hennepin Paper for 23 years until he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Little Falls; two sons, Wayne Vaverek, Cushing, and Alan Vaverek, Little Falls; four daughters, Jackie Jensen, Sauk Rapids, Deanna Gavigan, St. Paul, Fay Waldoch, Little Falls, and Linda Drong, Waite Park; and a sister, Lee England, Chicago.
A great granddaughter, five brothers and three sisters died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Mark Innocenti officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Brenny Funeral Home, West Chapel, in Little Falls with Christian Mothers rosary at 4:30 p.m., parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 8 p.m.
Friends also may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
