The Brainerd Warriors boys' basketball team pursues its second consecutive title in the Hibbing Invitational when it plays the host Bluejackets tonight. To reach the finals, Brainerd beat Chisholm 90-78, as Todd Vanek scored a career high 30 points.

Warrior forward Darla Magtibay poured in 23 points to push Brainerd past Crookston, 54-48, in the opening round of the fourth annual invitational basketball tournament. The victory moves Brainerd to the championship game against Moorhead, winner over C-I.

A shortage of stoker and some of the better grades of coal is being experienced in Brainerd, a check with various dealers around the city indicated. The dealers indicated it is becoming hard to find stoker coal.

An expansion building program in the Koop Block will be undertaken by the J. C. Penney Co. starting Feb. 1, adding 2,500 feet of floor space. They will take over space currently occupied by The Council lunch shop and Kwality Grocery.
