Home heating oil and other heating fuel prices have increased in the Brainerd area, though not as dramatically as the doubling reported in the east. No. 2 heating oil, used by a majority of people with oil furnaces, has jumped 20 cents to about $1.04 a gallon.

Narcotics officials yesterday arrested a man they called one of Brainerd's main cocaine distributors after a three-month investigation. He made two sales to undercover officers, and was also charged with burglary while out on a pass from jail.

The Brainerd area was plastered with another six inches of snow over the weekend, as Mother Nature seems bent on keeping pace with last year's heavy accumulation. The total for December thus far is more than 25 inches. Roofs are being shoveled.

A west Brainerd warehouse was open today as part of Brainerd's new program that will aid physically handicapped persons. Located between 7th and 8th Streets on Highway 371, the warehouse will store rags, copper, brass and aluminum collected for the purpose.

Brainerd High School basketball fans had an opportunity to see what the new Washington High School gymnasium and basketball team look like this year. The 1,500 seat gym was filled as an alumni team nosed out this year's Warriors by a score of 23-21 in overtime.
100 years ago (1909)
It took the jury only a half-hour to convict Frank Ramsey and Frank Wesley of the assault of Arthur Steinhagen. Judge McClenahan fined each man $75 plus $30 costs, with sentenced suspended provided they stay out of trouble for one year.
