John G. 'Jack' Hopping, 82, Brainerd, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on May 15, 1919, to Grant and Nancy (Horner) Hopping. He married Margaret Olson on May 13, 1944, in Minneapolis. The couple moved from Minneapolis to Brainerd in 1981. He was employed with Northwestern Casket Co. in Minneapolis. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brainerd, Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Meals on Wheels program.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary Hopping, Delano, John Hopping, Champlin, and Charles Hopping, Minneapolis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His brother, Richard Hopping, died earlier.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Nordland Lutheran Church in Paynesville with Pastor Keith Ainsley officiating. Burial will be in the Nordland Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church Friday an hour before services.
Memorials are preferred to Nordland Lutheran Church or the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
