It is the season to be joyful and thankful. There are too many negative things going on in the news and in our paper. Every year that I can I take a few hours to ring the bell and what a great reward that brings to my life. I get to say thank you and Merry Christmas to people I do not know and may never see again. Then I think about all the people who will get help all year from all of you who have taken time to donate. May your Christmas be special, I know mine will.

Consider a last-minute gift
Youth As Resources (YAR) would like to acknowledge and thank the many businesses, service groups and individuals that helped make the annual Brunch With Santa such a success. This years brunch had and extra special partnership with the Heartland Detachment of the MCL.Through a significant donation from this group, YAR was able to donate Brunch With Santa tickets to Salvation Army families and help give their holidays a merry start. We served over 500 adults and children from this wonderful donation along with the children having a chance to visit with Santa and receive a toy. Salvation Army has been reporting an unexpected increase of less fortunate families who need Christmas assistance. Make your last gift this Christmas, or for 2007, a donation to Salvation Army.

Parents pleased with program
Being parents of a pre-schooler and finding a pre-school for our child to attend can be a challenge. That challenge became a lot easier with the addition of the Pre-K KinderClub program offered through Community Ed. We enrolled our 4-year-old son in the program this past summer and have seen tremendous strides in his learning and social skills. He has learned so much in the short time there! A few subjects covered have been: days of the week, months of the year, numbers, alphabet letters and sounds, etc. He shares all that he has learned with us and we are so pleased with his advancement. We are confident that when he enrolls in kindergarten, that his experiences with the preschool program will have made him ready for the challenges of school.
The preschool program offered through Community Ed is an asset to the community and we hope other pre-school parents will take advantage of this fun learning environment for their kids.
