DEERWOOD - Lansin Robert Hamilton, age 81, of Deerwood, died on Dec. 22, 2009, at the North Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Center. He was born on April 6, 1928, in Crosby to Harold and Iva (Bickford) Hamilton.
Lansin was a Crosby-Ironton High School graduate, class of 1947. He received his bachelor's degree from the U of M in forestry in 1953. Lansin's career in forestry extended over 40 years working with Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, Minnesota Extension Services, Diamond Match Company, Burns Manufacturing, Crow Wing County Land Commission, MacMillan-Bloedel, Trus Joist MacMillan and Weyerhaeuser. Lansin was also a member of Keep America Green, the Tree Farm Programs and Minnesota Forestry Association, Lakes States Forestry Alliance, The Minnesota Forestry Coordinating Committee, Crow Wing County Commission, the Minnesota Association of County Land Commission, Crow Wing County Forest Product Development Committee, The Mineland Reclamation Committee, the Crow Wing County Mineland Recreation Committee, the IRRB Citizen Advisory Committee, Society of American Foresters, County Lands and Forests Citizen Advisory Board, Cuyuna Country State Recreation Board, Cuyuna Range Historical Preservation Society, the Crosby-Ironton School Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Idylles "Vicki"; and her children, Jeanne Hamoude, of Maple Grove, Pamela Knudsen, of Fall Brook, Calif., and John Strong, of St. Cloud; grandchildren; his first wife, Delores, of Deerwood; and their children; two sons, Douglas Hamilton, of Maple Grove, Robert (Leslie) Hamilton, of Ely; three daughters, Paulette (Bill) Abear, of Deerwood, Beverly (Rick) Abear, of Baxter, and Diane (Bruce) Crosby, of Merrifield; one brother, Richard (Tammy) Hamilton, of Burnsville; two sisters, Vera (Florian) Ridlon, of Cook, and Nancy (Scott Joseph) Hamilton, of Mendota Heights; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby.
Friends may call on Monday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
