Once upon a time there was a cardinal named Ruby. Ruby was really famous for her medicine she knew how to make. Everyone in the forest came to her to get cured. Ruby loved Christmas. She wrote a letter to Santa every year and left cookies and milk for him. She was good every year and never got into a fight.
One day on Christmas Eve she took a walk and she looked up into the beautiful snow falling from the sky. A winter wonder world was all around her. Swirling snowflakes danced around her sparking and shining like rainbows showering her. She loved it so much!

All of a sudden she saw a little black dot in the sky coming closer and closer and closer until it landed in the snow with a thud. It was Santa! Santa said, "Ruby I need your help! My head reindeer is sick!"
"Oh no! Not Rudolf!" Ruby said. "But why do you ask me to help?"
"Because of your famous medicine," he said. "Hurry we must go to the North Pole and cure Rudolf before it is too late! I will not be able to see in the thick snowstorm tonight without Rudolf's red nose," Santa said. Ruby and Santa got in the sleigh and off they went to the North Pole.
Once they got there Ruby saw a beautiful village with elves making wonderful toys. All of a sudden a loudspeaker came on and it said, "We are now done with the toys, please load up Santa's sleigh." All the elves finished what they were doing and they were slowly making their way to Santa's sleigh.
The loudspeaker came on again. "Santa, it is time to deliver your presents around the world!"
"Quickly!" he said to Ruby. They ran to Rudolf's stable. There sat poor Rudolf on a stack of hay moaning and groaning. Ruby ran to Santa's kitchen and whipped up some of her famous medicine. In a minute she came back with a jar. She gave it to Rudolf and once he drank it he sat straight up and was ready to go. "Thank you so much!" cried Santa. "You can pick any present from my sack."
"Oh thank you!" said Ruby. She chose a China doll with sparkling blue eyes, a kind face, with ripples of golden hair with a beautiful pink dress and shoes. She loved it. Santa and Ruby got into the sleigh and he flew her home. They said goodbye and Santa said, "Thank you again and be good next year."
"I will," said Ruby.
Santa got in his sleigh and rode off into the snowy night and said, "To all a good Christmas and to all a good night."
"I will never forget this night," Ruby said. In the morning she found Christmas presents under her tree and whispered, "Thank you, Santa."
And that was how Ruby saved Christmas.
