PIERZ -- Catherine Marie Janson, 85, Pierz, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Pierz Villa.
She was born May 7, 1916, in Agram Township to Matthew and Catherine (Brausen) Meyer. She attended country school near Genola. She married Leonard "Butch" Janson on June 6, 1939. They farmed in Granite Township until March 1968. After moving to Pierz, she owned and operated the Star Cafe for many years. She was a member of Christian Mothers, Pierz Commerical Club and was a charter member of the Pierz Lioness. She also volunteered at the Pierz Villa.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana Meyer, Pierz, Brenda Girtz, Pierz, and Cheryl Nies, Sartell; a son, Dale Janson, Pierz; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Janson, Pierz.
Her husband, eight brothers, Nick, John, Peter, Andrew, Matt, Joe, Chris and Gus Meyer, and three sisters, Lena Deiderich, Mary "Mae" Moyer, and Margaret Faust, died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating and Father Ken Brenny officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz with Christian Mothers praying the rosary at 4:30 p.m., parish prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and Knights of Columbus will pray the Office of the Dead at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
