MOTLEY -- Frederick Duell, 78, Motley, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1923, in St. Paul, to Frederick and Teresa (Sachi) Duell. He grew up in St. Paul.He entered the Marine Air Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned to St. Paul, attended the University of Minnesota and received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He married Audrey Van Wey on Jan. 28, 1950, in St. Paul. They lived in White Bear Lake. He worked as an electrical engineer for 3M for 33 years. He was a lifeguard at Lake Phalen. He played professional football in the St. Paul City League. Following his retirement, they moved to a Sylvan Lake home near Pillager. He was a member of the VFW and the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vicki James, Apache Junction, Ariz., Wendy Briggs, Motley; two sons, Richard Duell, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Thomas Duell, Nowthen; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother, Clifford Duell, Arden Hills.
A daughter, Sheri Long, and a son, Robert Duell, died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples with Father Tim Wenzel officiating.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with prayers at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
