The frenzy of Christmas shopping is coming to an end. Cooks are planning and preparing for an influx of family and friends Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It is the climax of the Christmas season; one which many will observe at Christmas services.

30 years ago (1973)

Peterson Avenue is one of the names selected for the streets at Brainerd State Hospital. A committee of staff members and Mayor-Elect Tom O'Brien chose the names from a long list of suggestions submitted by employees and volunteers.

40 years ago (1963)

Santa Claus is getting ready to close shop in Brainerd. Hundreds of boys and girls have visited his Brainerd headquarters to tell him what they would like come Christmas morning.

60 years ago (1943)

The fire department was called to Sixteenth and Pine Street this morning when the front end of a yellow cab caught fire from alcohol boiling over on the manifold.

80 years ago (1923)
