AITKIN -- John "Jack" Nels Novotny, 65, Aitkin, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
He was born March 7, 1935, in Crosby to John and Nora (Moen) Novotny. He married Irma M. Menzel on Dec. 15, 1956, in Iron Hub. He retired from the Minnesota Department of Transportation after 36 years of service. He was fire warden for Rabbit Lake Township for many years and was a former Rabbit Lake Township board member. He served with the National Guard Unit stationed in Crosby. He was involved with the beef operation on their farm. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iron Hub.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bradley Novotny, Aitkin; three daughters, Phyllis Peterson, Iron Hub, Jacquelyn Lemieux, Baxter, and Shelley Novotny, St. Paul; a brother, Albert Novotny, Deerwood; a sister, Mary Lou Chambers, Clouquet; and 10 grandchildren.
His parents and stepmother, Christine Novotny, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iron Hub with the Rev. Alvin Jeske officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Koop Funeral Home in Crosby, and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
