Rudolph W. Schmaltz

Rudolph W. Schmaltz, 69, Brainerd, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at his home.

He was born July 21, 1931, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Herman O. and Beatrice B. (Brooks) Schmaltz. He was raised in the Hillman/Pine Center area. He entered the Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge, he lived in Michigan and worked for E.J. Longyear Drilling for many years. He was married to Ruth Britton from 1956-1981. He moved to Brainerd in 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Giotta, Negaunee, Mich., and Laurie McGee, Marquette, Mich.; a son, Tracy Schmaltz, Chassel, Mich.; two brothers, Rodney Schmaltz, Brainerd, and Russell Schmaltz, Blaine; three sisters, Hazel Holmes, Brainerd, Betty McGraw, Scandia, and Lola Hepburn, Pine City; and eight grandchildren.

His parents and a brother, Robert Schmaltz, died earlier.

Services were held Friday at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial was at the Dykeman Cemetery in rural Brainerd.
