Edward B. Marks, age 56, of Brainerd, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at his home in rural Brainerd. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at First Lutheran Church of Brainerd with the Rev. Kristin Kelsey officiating. Interment will be in the Dykeman Union Cemetery of rural Brainerd.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Edward Bennett Marks was born on Dec. 19, 1948, in Durham, N.C., the son of Andrew and Blanche (Ellis) Marks. He was called from this life on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at his home on South Long Lake, near Brainerd. He had attained the age of 56 years.
At an early age Ed's family moved from North Carolina to Michigan. He attended school in Grand Ledge, Mich., graduating from high school there. Following his schooling he enlisted in the Navy. After his original enlistment he became a member of the National Guard. On Sept. 18, 1971, he was united in marriage to Denise Ohlsson in Virginia Beach, Va. To this union three children were born. Ed and Denise were able to share 33 years of marriage together. In 1973 the couple moved to the Brainerd lakes area where he worked at a variety of jobs. On May 4, 1994, they founded the MarTek Electronics Corp. in Onamia, Minn., through hard work and many long hours they were able to build a very successful family business.
Ed was a member of First Lutheran Church of Brainerd, the Onamia Legion Post No. 395, the Onamia Civic Association and Onamia Lions Club. Among the things he enjoyed doing were outdoor sports, including hunting, fishing and camping, also vacationing where it's warm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Blanche, and a brother, Donnie, in 1977. Ed is mourned in passing by his wife, Denise, of Brainerd; children, Andrea, and her husband, Elvis Nieken, of Brainerd, Jeffrey Marks, and his wife, Lisa, of Brainerd, and Lea Marks, of Brainerd; four grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karen McKenzie, of Grand Ledge, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
