Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society is sponsoring the fourth annual Pillager Christmas Bird Count on Jan. 1. The count is open to experienced and novice birders of all ages and skills.
Counters meet in Pillager at 8 a.m. A potluck supper is served at 5 p.m. as the day's count is being tallied. Counters 18 and older must pay $5.
Last year the Pillager count found 2,738 birds of 34 species, including the third highest count of common redpolls in the Lower 48.
