PIERZ -- Pierz School District Superintendent James Hahn has handed in his resignation letter to the Pierz School Board.
The board voted 4-2 to accept the resignation that is effective June 15. Board members Bridget Britz and Jane Funk voted no.
"He's a man who has a vision and cares for kids," said Britz. "But now with education the way it is, it is not a good time to change superintendents. It's a tough decision and it (accepting the resignation) will not benefit the district to change."
Hahn would not say why he is resigning. "I don't want to get into it," he said.
Hahn's contract ends June 30. The details of his remaining contract have not yet been worked out, said Britz.
The school board met in three closed sessions to evaluate the superintendent. Britz said chairman Mike Wilson reported at an open meeting in November that areas of concern regarding Hahn were being addressed.
"You can't pinpoint one thing," said Britz. "Communication was one thing."
Britz said the school board is working to find a new superintendent. She said the school board will do the superintendent search on its own and will not hire an outside agency.
