Before you run your mouths in the paper, come to a (school) board meeting, read the independent audit on finances, listen to what the board's saying and what the extracurricular group is trying to achieve. Quit being so uninformed. Shut up and show up. The Dispatch is one source and must condense a meeting into a couple of columns. If you're basing your entire argument on what you read in the paper or hear on the corner, that's pathetic. Get off your soapbox, listen, gain knowledge, then comment. The majority of the commenters don't even have the facts. Pretty ignorant, folks.
Why is this bad?
Explain to me how a group of concerned citizens gathers on their own to try and solve one aspect of the impending school district cuts is wrong? So there is a group that wants to help fund extracurriculars to help keep kids involved. Why is that bad? Form a group to help fund another angle of it. If you have time to write in Vox Pop, you have time to write to state and federal representatives who haven't lived up to their promises. To the Dispatch, print those addresses every day. Maybe this energy can be directed for positive results.
Ban cigarettes completely
I loved the article ripping on people who litter cigarettes. As history has shown, cigarette smokers don't seem to care about the consequences of their actions. I mean they smoke something that kills their own bodies, they don't care if the smoke bothers and kills others and they throw their lit trash out into our streets and our ditches, thus ruining our world and possibly igniting something on fire that could kill people. I'm so sick and tired of these smoking idiots and their ignorant, selfish ways. Ban cigarettes completely. That is the answer. Period. Stop messing around, America!
No right to complain
People placing leftover food in their yard should realize that it may attract unwanted visitors. It will attract wild animals such as skunks, raccoons and bears. It also attracts neighborhood dogs and cats. You are not doing any favors for animals, pets or your neighbors by placing any leftovers of any kind anywhere that animals can access it. If you feed birds, place the seed and suet in appropriate feeders high off of the ground. If you place leftover food in your yard, you have no right to complain about stray dogs and cats in your yard.
Manners were lost
To the woman at the drug store who patiently waited on me while I rudely talked on my cell phone, I'm sorry. With the stress of the holidays and a unexpected call from an old friend, I seemed to have lost my manners.
Pay the piper
All the Open Forums and Vox Pops complaining that the school district is following through on its intended mission of trimming $5 million dollars from the budget are puzzling to me. This is exactly what the district said they were gonna do and if anything. They've been more lenient than firm on those initial proposed recommended cuts. This is what our community voted for. This is what they were told was going to happen before they voted. Now they should pay the piper.
