CASS LAKE - Little Falls, in sixth place, led six Brainerd area teams following Friday's first round in the 32-team Big Bear tournament.
Following the Flyers were Wadena-Deer Creek in eighth place, Aitkin and Brainerd were tied for 10th, Crosby-Ironton was 20th and Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus was 21st.
Pierz loses twice
PIERZ - Cody Vanzee, Nathan Tomala and Sean Huls went 2-0 as Pierz lost to two ranked opponents in its triangular Friday.
The Pioneers lost 43-21 to Milaca, ranked ninth in Class 2A, and 57-16 to St. Cloud Apollo, ranked ninth in 3A.
Huls and Tomala improved their season records to 10-1 and 10-2, respectively.
Going 1-1 for Pierz were Chris Ortman (9-3), Brad Meyer (7-3), Brett Brausen and Josh Lanners (10-3).
