County amends cleanup resolution

Posted: Wednesday, December 19, 2007

WALKER The Cass County Board voted Tuesday to amend a resolution to clean up property near Pine River and charge the costs against the property, with payment due when property taxes are paid.

The amendment calls for eviction of any renter or other non-family member from the property.

Ida Mae Moore of Phoenix, Ariz., owns the property. Her brother, Ivan Avenbach, has been living in one of the houses the county has condemned on the property. The county also believes another unrelated man has been renting a mobile home that is not condemned, but is on the property.

The nuisance abatement order calls for Avenbach to vacate the condemned residence, but permits him to occupy one of the habitable mobile homes on the property. The order against renting to non-family members applies during the abatement process.

The board Tuesday accepted the low bid from Construction Services Inc. of Duluth to demolish structures deemed uninhabitable on the property and to remove hazardous debris from the remainder of the property as well as to abate the hazardous materials for a cost of $39,080.
