Mille Lacs Band leader gains honor

Motley family prays through ordeal

Nobody died during the 2004 hunting seasons in Minnesota, the DNR reports, marking the second time in the past six year there were no fatalities.

How about a ski pass for public trails? With ski season just around the corner, the DNR reminds cross-country skiers that a pass is required to use DNR-sponsored cross-country trails statewide. All cross-country skiers using public trails who are 16 and older must have the pass. Skiers must sign the pass and carry it with them.
Number of walleye fingerlings stocked nearly doubles
State and private fish hatcheries produced three million walleye fingerlings for stocking in more than 250 lakes this year, almost twice last year's total of 1.7 million fingerlings, the DNR said.
Proposed trail review rules will be topic of January hearing
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Environmental Quality Board (EQB) will host public hearings in mid-January on proposed rules establishing mandatory Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) and exemption thresholds for certain types of recreational trails.

On Dec. 11 the Gull Lake Drifters snowmobile club hosted an appreciation dinner for landowners who allow the club to ride trails on their property. Perhaps the Drifters should host an appreciation dinner for Ol' Man Winter in an effort to entice the tardy visitor into dumping two feet of snow on the area.

Room-rate math for those who value spacious hotel rooms
Some of us rate hotels by service, others by location or luxury. But what about the price of a room per square foot? It's not a frivolous question, especially in a place like Manhattan, where hotel rooms are getting dearer and, if anything, smaller.
