Officers elected to Cass County economic board
WALKER -- A new slate of officers recently was elected to the Cass County Economic Development Corp. Board.
Officers for 2005 include Dave Johnson, Anderson Brothers Construction, president; Cy Struss, First National Bank of Walker, vice president; Lee Wangstad, secretary; and Larrie Nelson, Pine River State Bank, treasurer.
Other members of the board include Jim Tuller, John Wetrosky, Pat Rafferty, Dave Schornack, Howard Prusheck, Vicki White, Robert Yochum, John Grimley, John Weins, Robert Kangas and Rusty Lilyquist.

The economic development group met in December to set goals and possible events for the coming year.
Two businesses have built in the Walker industrial park and corporation consultant Gail Leverson reported she is working with more than 20 different individuals on business plans throughout Cass County. Not all will be using the JOBZ program, but other programs may be accessed for their development.
Buxton and Albrecht join BLADC Board
The Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corp. announced the appointment of Bruce Buxton and Chuck Albrecht to its board of directors.
Buxton is chief executive officer of Widseth Smith Nolting, a design and engineering firm in Baxter. Originally from Walker, Buxton has been in the Brainerd area for more than 25 years.
Albrecht is president-chief executive officer at Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union.
Crow Wing Power names officers
Two Crow Wing Power senior managers recently were promoted to officers of the cooperative.
Don Nelson was named chief financial officer and Doug Harren was named chief operating officer.
Nelson has worked for the cooperative for 24 years and has been in the position of manager of finance and business for the past 18 years. He also has served as the general manager of People's Security for 15 years and was instrumental in the development of Crow Wing Power Credit Union in 1998.
Harren has been the cooperative's utility and operations manager for 12 years. In addition, he serves as general manager for Access Plus, a cooperative subsidiary and T-Mobile distributorship.
Raboin joins Heidmann Builders
Jim Raboin joined Heidmann Builders as general manager.
Raboin moved to this area in June 2003 to be part of the development and construction growth. The company reported Raboin's business management, planning, marketing and visionary experience will complement the business.
Beginning welding course offered at CLC
Customized Training of Central Lakes College is offering a basic welding course 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 11-Feb. 3, on the Brainerd campus.
Tuition is $229 and includes materials.
This is a course for the beginner and will allow experienced individuals to build on their existing skills. Craig Weigel is the instructor.

Crow Wing Power announces award winners
Winners of the first Crow Wing Power Touchstone Energy Community Award were announced recently.
First place went to the Crisis Line and Referral Service, Brainerd, for outstanding service to the community. Andy Holmes, chair of the Crisis Line board, received a plaque and $250. In addition, the organization will contend for a statewide Touchstone Energy Community Award, which has a cash prize of $1,000.
The statewide award winner will be recognized at the Minnesota Cooperative Energy Forum in February.
Bruce Winder, Pine River, received a second-place award. Winder is administrator at Pine River Group Home and has been an area volunteer for many years. He was given an award for his "selfless commitment to community."
