The trend toward rejection of school board issues the last year probably reflects dissatisfaction with rising taxes. The Brainerd School Bond has avoided bond issues and consequently has not faced the possibility of rejection by the voters.

Figures released by County Auditor Einer R. Anderson today showed that the 1960 consolidated Brainerd tax levy is down 3.60 mills or 220.52 on the homestead rate compared to 224.12 a year ago.

Crow Wing County asked $7,500 for direct relief and sponsorship fund allotments but received only $2,600 from the State Legislature Emergency committee at St. Paul.

The Basket Social and Dance given at Beaver Dam School was a success financially as well as socially. Proceeds were $50 plus a good time and good music.
100 years ago (1900)
A new dry goods store will be established this week in connection with M.J. Reilly's grocery business. Mr. Reilly has a double store, and one room will be used for the dry goods department.
