ST. CLOUD -- Melvin "Dutch" G. Thielbar, age 85, died Dec. 12, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. He was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Sheldon, Ill., to Edward and Ida Thielbar. He was united in marriage to Verna Schmelzer in White Bear Lake on May 27, 1939. Dutch served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from the Brainerd State Hospital after 20 years as boiler-fireman.
He is survived by his son, Michael and wife Lynn of St. Croix Beach, Minn.; daughters, Barbara Drake of St. Paul and Margo Hunt of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren and their spouses; his special "little buddies;" also by many brothers and sisters-in-law and many friends and neighborgs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; parents, Edward and Ida; brother, Ed and sisters, Rose and Alice.
A private interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
