I want to personally thank the members of the Salvation Army for their great work providing aid to those less fortunate in the Brainerd lakes area. This year I have been volunteering my time to the Salvation Army as a bell ringer. I am inspired and thrilled to see so many people take a moment out of their busy schedule to put a donation into the red kettle. God bless the Salvation Army, the volunteers and the generous people contributing to a worthy cause.
Snow vs. roundabouts
Perhaps the Vox Pop Department of Snow Extraction will be able to clear the center of the roundabouts out so the intersections function as they should. Honestly. Roundabouts, really? Whoever invented those things sure sold somebody a load ... and whoever made the decision to use them here should be removed from their position! That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it!
Why get a dog - Part II?
It's also frustrating that in the same Baxter neighborhood as the doggie-ATVer, a puppy is kept kenneled outside day and night, is never seen played with (even when the parents and children are playing in the yard). This puppy also has never been seen walked in the neighborhood by its owners. Talk about "why get a dog" - this puppy's owners should reconsider why they got a dog. It's not fair to this puppy to have no time free from its kennel. Very, very sad. (Also, are the dog's accommodations "safe" in this cold winter weather?)
Price of gas
Please allow me to share with you a few gas price observances. Early Friday morning, Dec. 12, gas in Brainerd/Baxter was at $1.52 per gallon. Same day, same station, 9:30 a.m., $1.75 per gallon. Meanwhile, same day, my family traveled to Fargo/Moorhead. Guess what? A gallon of gas in Pillager was still $1.52. Prices from Pillager to Fargo ranged from $1.45 to $1.54. We returned to Brainerd at 6 p.m. that day and the price was now $1.69. Within 12 hours the same gas station had posted three different prices. I've read plenty of comments over the years regarding the apparent gas price fixing in the area, along with many rebuttals. I've never submitted an opinion to Vox Pop before, but I just couldn't resist this time. From 21 to 30 cents a gallon less at every location from here to North Dakota? Come on.
Appalled at lack of snow removal
Having just moved to this area, I am appalled at the lack of snow removal. A week after the snow some streets in the west Brainerd business area still have not been plowed. Does Brainerd have any snowplows? Does the city care about the safety of the motorists? And the merchants, you are saying times are tough. Maybe shoppers are going to a town that plows their streets. Don't you have any clout with the city council to get this taken care of? This is called up north. It does snow here. Cities and counties need to plow their streets.
Looked out the window this morning and 8 inches of fresh snow and below zero temperatures. Global warming strikes again.
