WILLMAR -- The Brainerd Warriors remained perfect on the season with a 55-45 victory over the Willmar Cardinals in Central Lakes Conference boys' basketball Saturday.

Brainerd's Jake Phillips led all scorers with 20 points while adding seven rebounds and five assists.

Paul Tuchscherer and Bryce Cloutier each tossed in 10 points and Justin Mueller added seven points and seven rebounds as Brainerd improved to 3-0 in the conference, 4-0 overall.

"I was really proud of how we played defense," Warriors coach Matt Urbanek said, "especially the way we controlled Willmar's size inside. We showed a lot of character going on the road for the second night in a row and picking up a win.

"Quite a few different players are stepping up and contributing right now, which is becoming a trademark of this team."
