Do you remember what it was like being picked on in school? Maybe you had a bully that made your school life miserable, or you were teased for the way you looked or the way you dressed. In many ways this also made it hard for you to make close friends. But you swore to yourself that when you got bigger, smarter, cooler you would punch that bully in the nose and stop the humiliation for you and others.
Who helped you understand that you were not worthless, like the kids told you everyday in school? Was it your father, mother, older brother, teacher, youth pastor, a coach? All of us have had role models/mentors in our lives that have affirmed us and helped us understand that we are "wonderfully made."
Brett, 13, and Jake, 10, are two brothers in dire need of a male role model. They are both academically bright, but suffer from lack of attention. More than anything they need a listening ear and someone who can help boost their self-esteem. Brett and Jake need someone to be their friend, someone they can depend on and someone who will show them that they do matter and are special.
