WHIPHOLT -- The suspect in the stabbing death of Brian Ingalls was charged Wednesday in Cass County District Court.

Robert Armstrong, 30, Bloomington, was charged with second-degree intentional murder and second-degree murder while committing an assault. Both counts carry a maximum sentence of 40 years.

Armstrong made his first appearance Wednesday in Cass County District Court. Armstrong remains in Cass County Jail with bail set at $500,000. His next court date was set for Monday.

According to the criminal complaint, Ingalls, 32, Bloomington, and Armstrong, along with others, were at the Player's Club Bar and Restaurant on Highway 200, near Whipholt, Sunday when the two men got into an argument.

The complaint says that after the argument ended Armstrong, Ingalls and three others went to Armstrong's residence, a cabin, in Whipholt, on the south end of Leech Lake.

At the residence Armstrong and Ingalls again fought, and witnesses observed Armstrong striking Ingalls repeatedly with what appeared to be a knife, the complaint said.

The two witnesses left the residence to get help and at about 2 a.m. Monday Cass County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Whipholt residence where they found the blood-soaked body of Ingalls, a bloody Leatherman knife and Armstrong, the complaint said.
