Biathletes from Nisswa Northwest Biathlon Club participated in Minnesota Cup events last weekend at Mt. Itasca in Coleraine.
On Sunday, eight Nisswa NW Club biathletes participated.
In the 12.5-kilometer junior men's race, Derrek Matson of Baxter missed 10 of 20 shots and finished at 46:21 in third place.
Josh Duda. Pillager, was fourth in the 12.5 km men's race with 13 misses at 1:05:06.
In the 10 km youth men's race, Wynn Roberts of Battle Lake, skiing for Nisswa, was second with five misses at 34:36. Hans Stadem, Baxter, with seven misses, was fifth at 38:47. Justin Tyner, Baxter, with 15 misses, was sixth at 41:08.
In the 6 km boys' class, Conrad Roberts was third with 12 misses at 39:12.
In the 3 km youth novice class, Kelci Roberts was fourth at 19:34.
In the 10-kilometer junior men's class Saturday, Matson had six misses out of 10 shots and finished third at 36:39.
Duda was third in the men's class Saturday at 49:00 with seven misses.
In the 7.5 km youth men's class Saturday, Wynn Roberts was second with six misses at 26:02. Hans Stadem was sixth with five misses at 28:52.
On Wednesday a team from Anchorage, Alaska, will arrive in the Nisswa area to begin training for positions on the U.S. Biathlon Team Trials and for the Youth and Junior World Championships and NorAm races. A three-race series will be conducted Saturday through Monday at Mt. Itasca.
Five members of Nisswa NW will take part in the Trials or NorAm series. Matson will compete in the junior men's class and Wynn Roberts in the youth men's class.
In USSA skiing, Hanna Stadem, Baxter, who trains with Nisswa NW, will ski in the Junior Olympic qualifiers next weekend at Houghton, Mich.
