Harold James Disrud, age 75, resident of Brainerd, Minn., died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Harold was born on May 12, 1930, in Cyrus, Minn., to George and Caroline (Hogy) Disrud. He married Emily Gustavson Nov. 22, 1968. Harold was a member of First Lutheran Church, Brainerd, American Legion Post No. 255 and Color Guard and the VFW. Following his retirement with Potlatch, Harold was a machinist teacher at Central Lakes College. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in active service for 11 years, including five years of overseas duty. He was assigned to a special group serving Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy.
Survivors include his children, Teresa Walter, Fargo, N.D., Cindy Draughon, Clayton, N.C., Harold "Chip" (Joanne) Disrud II, Sartell, Minn., Connie (Chris) Gindorff, Farmington, Minn., Lisa (Tracy) Kretzman, Brainerd, Minn., Pamela (Bob) Nelson, Bloomington, Minn., Diane (Mike) Bjornson, Brainerd, Minn., and Susan (Tom) Breen, Bloomington, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; four sisters, Avis Bisson, Delores Lange, Bernice Finch and Beverly White; and a brother, Wally Disrud.
His wife, Emily, died in 2004. His parents; a grandson; and infant brother also died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Andy Smith and Pastor Kristin Kelsey officiating. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and the hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
