Four arrested on meth charges

STAPLES - Four people were arrested Sunday following a search at the Amtrak Station in Staples that resulted in the seizure of four pounds of methamphetamines.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, along with the Lakes Area Drug Investigative Unit; Crow Wing and Todd County sheriff's departments; Brainerd, Baxter and Staples police departments; and the Drug Enforcement Administration executed a search warrant. Additional search warrants were executed in Brainerd and Baxter by the Crow Wing County Tactical Unit.

Those arrested included a 25-year-old man from Clackamus, Ore.; a 29-year-old woman from Baxter; a 28-year-old Brainerd man; and a 30-year-old Brainerd man.

The Oregon man and Baxter woman will be arraigned in federal court on charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department. The two Brainerd men were transported to the Crow Wing County Jail and are being held on local charges. The investigation is ongoing and many more arrests are anticipated.

The Dispatch is withholding the names of those arrested until the suspects are arraigned.
