20 years ago (1987)

Brainerd's need for an arts center has been well documented. Brainerd Community College's nationally acclaimed theater program has outgrown its space. The larger Tornstrom Auditorium at the middle school is in need of renovation.

30 years ago (1977)

In Brainerd there was a spirited can gathering contest for the Salvation Army homerooms. Coming out on top was the homeroom of Chuck Arns. The room collected 650 cans of food.

40 years ago (1967)

Don Toft, Sioux Falls, S.D., has been named general secretary of the Brainerd YMCA. Toft is a graduate of Augustana College and began his work in the YMCA program as a physical director in Sioux Falls.

60 years ago (1947)

80 years ago (1927)

Announcement was made today that the Brainerd Foundry Company has been awarded a $200,000 contract from the Northern Pacific Railway for the manufacture of bearings to be used by the railroad in the year of 1928.

100 years ago (1907)

Seymour Clark, 714 Seventh Street South, is engaged in the work of turning out handmade brooms. He is making regular stock for the trade only, and only retail, heavy saloon and warehouse brooms. He uses broom corn from this ranch at Gull Lake.
