Wadena boxing card Saturday

WADENA -- The Wadena Golden Gloves boxing team will host its first home card of the season 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wadena Armory.

Twelve bouts are scheduled with boxers from Wadena, Rochester, Pine River, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes and Willmar.

Two heavyweight bouts are scheduled. Wadena's Josh Bahls (195 pounds) will box Emery Smith of Rochester (205) in the main event. The other heavyweight bout sends Lee Roggenkamp (195), in his first bout, against Steve Severson of Rochester (195).

Dan Soukup of Pine River (165) will go against Travis Liffrig of Rochester and Ricky Aulie of Brainerd (135) will face Richard Kern of Rochester.

Veteran junior boxer Cody McManigle (110) will meet Luis Solis of Willmar. Guy School of Sebeka faces Chris Lozic of Rochester in the 154-pound division. Shane Milbradt of Sebeka (139) faces Jose Solis of Willmar. Dewayne Steward of Wadena (140) takes on Ernest Davis of Rochester.

Four other bouts are also planned.

JV girls' basketball team loses twice

The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity girls' basketball team lost its first two games of the season.

On Dec. 8, Brainerd was edged 42-41 by Rocori 42. Katie Ahlberg had 13 points and Helena Karlsgodt nine for Brainerd.

On Dec. 1, the Warriors lost 53-46 to Willmar despite 16 points from Ahlberg. Brainerd's next game is Thursday at St. Cloud Apollo.
