MOORHEAD (AP) -- One person died after an early morning apartment fire Tuesday in this western Minnesota city.
Firefighters found a 23-year-old Moorhead man unconscious in a second-story apartment after the fire was reported just before 3 a.m.
One of six apartment building residents was awoken by smoke and managed to wake up all but the man before fleeing the building, police said.
The man was taken to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D., where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. His name was not immediately released.
The fire likely started in the apartment where the victim was found, said Fire Chief Marty Soeth. The cause was not immediately determined.
