The cost of health care at every level has become so outrageous that so many cannot get the care or the insurance to provide it. So I was relieved when the president said that he hoped Congress would come up with a solution by August. I welcomed the prospect of the government coming up with an affordable solution. How naive of me. So here it is December and after both houses coming up with bills consisting of thousands of pages of what would be covered, how they could mandate that people have to buy insurance or be penalized and who is going to pay for it, we are no better off. The two parties continually fight each other instead of working together. So many members have said the bill is too long for them to even read it.
I am sure it didn't take this long for Congress to find health insurance coverage for themselves, no matter what their age or pre-existing conditions. Or for them to decide that they would automatically receive a raise in salary each year. Or that they would collect their salary for life after serving their time in office.
Once again Congress is missing the point. The idea shouldn't be what services to cut or where the money is going to come from. The idea should be how to get the greedy profiteers out of the health care business. Excessive profits and obscene salaries and bonuses shouldn't come at the expense of peoples' lives.
