As the income tax day of reckoning approaches, many unemployed and under-employed area residents are unsure of what to expect. They may have chosen to not have taxes withheld from their unemployment compensation. Some may have withdrawn money from a 401k. Or they may have other income tax-related concerns.
Many of their questions will be answered at a free, public meeting from 9-11 a.m. Monday in the downstairs meeting room on the east end of the Morrison County Government Building (Courthouse addition) at 213 S.E. First Ave., in Little Falls.
The Mid-Minnesota Job Loss Action Committee gratefully announced that Brian Mackinac, a certified public accountant, has volunteered to freely share his knowledge about income tax laws at the meeting. He is a partner in the firm of Schlenner, Wenner & Co., certified public accountants and business consultants.
He will discuss the earned income tax credit, changes in unemployment tax laws, the consequences of withdrawals or loans from 401k or other retirement plans and various other income tax matters. And he will answer the audience's questions related to the topic.
The meeting continues the series of free, public workshops hosted by JobLAC during the past six months, in partnership with Catholic Charities whose mission statement is "Providing Help, Creating Hope, Serving all Faiths."
