VOX POP

When passing through Pequot Lakes on Sunday, I was surprised to see two flags in the city park. Only one was half staff - the other was not. That one happened to be on the veterans memorial. With the long history of sacrifice to our country by our millions of veterans, couldn't someone take an extra couple of minutes to show some well-deserved respect and lower both flags.

Crossword puzzle and Hawaiian quarter

A million thanks. Now you finally have a sensible layout for the crossword puzzle page in the Sunday paper. I think it's really neat this way. Now I have one more thing. Is there anyone there or do you have a Department of Languages that can translate the words on the new Hawaiian quarter? I can't read it. Thanks a lot.

Editor's note: The Vox Pop Department of Languages learned, according to the World Wide Web, the Hawaiian motto, "Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono," printed on the state quarter means, "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness."

Snowplow trouble

Well, it's only Wednesday and we finally see a snowplow coming down. Wow! It's a good thing we didn't have like 4 inches of snow. Oh, wait, I think we did. And you think you could plow both sides? No, we're too lazy. We can only do one side. Boy, the city's really cutting back, aren't they?
