Lakes Area Interfaith Caregivers, Pequot Lakes, was awarded the fifth annual Crow Wing Power Touchstone Energy Community Award.
Tim McCarthy, Lakes Area Interfaith Caregivers director, accepted the award.
Lakes Area Interfaith Caregivers has 400 volunteers serving more than 125 people each month, giving more than 200 rides mainly for medical appointments, visiting 45 lonely people each month and constructing about 30 wheelchair ramps each year for those who cannot afford to have them built. The group's focus is to help disabled and people in need.
Statewide, there are 20 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, like Crow Wing Power. Lakes Area Interfaith Caregivers received $500 and a plaque and is entered into the statewide competition. The statewide winner will be announced early in 2009.
