The Brainerd Water and Light Board gave city residents an early Christmas gift, in the form of an approximately 5 percent reduction in their electrical rates.

30 years ago (1974)

It looks like Brainerd will have a white Christmas after all, as mother nature dumped between 4 and 5 inches of the wet, white stuff on the city last night and today.

40 years ago (1964)

The Brainerd Exchange Club last night staged an appreciation party for members of the Brainerd Volunteer Fire Department. The party, which featured a steak fry, was held at the French Rapids ski chalet. Some 34 firemen turned out for the party.

60 years ago (1944)

Resort owners of the Brainerd area are planning to spend approximately $500,000 in improving their properties for the accommodation of tourists in the postwar period.

80 years ago (1924)

Over 1,000 Brainerd kiddies under the age of 12 years registered at the Perry Hardware Company's store so that Santa Claus would remember them in his preliminary trip south.
