BHS skiers sweep Apollo meet

ST. CLOUD -- Derrek Matson and Christina Roberts led a Brainerd Nordic skiing stampede at the St. Cloud Apollo Invitational Tuesday.

Matson won the boys' race with a time of 13:21 and teammate Chris Woodard finished third at 13:24, helping the Warrior boys to a 35-second victory over runner-up Alexandria.

"The boys placed second to Alexandria in a meet last week and were able to come out on top (Tuesday)," said Warriors head coach Chris Hanson. "On the girls side, Christina looked very good and won in the last-half kilometer of the race."

Roberts finished in 15:03 to capture her first individual victory of the season. Rebecca Mueller finished fourth and Ashley Schmolke ninth, helping the Brainerd girls to a 26-second defeat of Alexandria.
