20 years ago (1983)

The Brainerd School Board last night approved an estimated $209,000 worth of energy saving projects for school buildings.

30 years ago (1973)

Mrs. Henry C. Mills presented a check for $1,000 recently to Ray Hoffmann, president of the Brainerd Rotary Club, for use in the club's student loan fund.

40 years ago (1963)

Plans are moving forward at the Northwest Paper Company here to begin operation with their new off-machine coater early next month. Construction work is nearing completion on the new addition which will house the coater.

60 years ago (1943)

Brainerd's Warriors, despite noticeable after effects of the flu, swept over a favored Alexandria team 38-30. Paced by Co-Captains Myer Skoog and Johnny Benson and Marv Bollig, each of whom scored nine points.

80 years ago (1923)

"Walter, what kind of meat is this?"

"Spring lamb, sir."

"I thought so. I've been chewing on one of the springs for an hour."

100 years ago (1903)

"Pardon me gentlemen," said the individual who had just moved into the little town as he entered the grocery store, "but is there a chicken raiser here?"
