Wolverines pin Road Crew

WADENA -- The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines started with three forfeit victories and never looked back there as they defeated the Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew 52-16 in Mid-State Conference wrestling Monday.

Kenny Steffens recorded the most decisive victory of the evening pinning his opponent in :35 seconds. Ian Carstrom and Matt Gastecki also picked up pins for the Wolverines.

Heavyweight Phil Shequen picked up the lone pin for the Road Crew defeating his opponent in 3:40.

C-I's Sharp

wins individual title

LONG PRAIRIE -- Jaran Sharp of Crosby-Ironton won the 145-pound championship at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle wrestling invitational Saturday.

Sharp won the title because his total team points bettered the second-place wrestler by one.

The Rangers' Brian Wood was second at 125, losing 9-3 to Travis Pesta of LPGE.

C-I's Dan Biever took third and Lane Srock and David Rono each took fourth.

LP-GE won the meet with 91 points, followed by Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 81, Browerville-Eagle Valley 44 and CI 10.
