LONG PRAIRIE -- A man arrested after a State Patrol trooper found a suitcase bomb in his pickup truck is expected to be charged today in Todd County District Court.
The suspect was arrested about 1 p.m. Friday after the trooper stopped the man for speeding on Highway 210, near Hewitt.
The trooper found a suitcase that contained 1.5 pounds of TNT and a canister with a blasting cap in the man's pickup, the State Patrol office in Detroit Lakes reported.
The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad was called to disarm the bomb.
Lt. Mike Hanson, of the State Patrol in Detroit Lakes, said the FBI is investigating the incident, but so far they have not determined where the suspect got the TNT or what he intended to do with it.
With that amount of TNT, "the FBI said it could wipe out something pretty good," said Capt. Bruce Hentges of the State Patrol in Detroit Lakes.
Hanson said the suspect had a significant criminal history, including narcotics involvement, and was wanted on several arrest warrants.
